Friday, May 10, 2024 11:00 Massacre at Le Paradis - On May 27th 1940, as the evacuation from Dunkirk became a reality, 99 members of The Royal Norfolk Regiment, The Royal Scots Regiment and others surrendered to German troops in the small Northern French village of Le Paradis. They were marched into a farmyard and massacred. Only two soldiers survived-Private Bert Pooley from London and Private Bill O’Callaghan from Dereham in Norfolk. Members of the Le Paradis Commemoration Group, John Head, Dennis O’Callaghan, and Nick Smith look at the lead up to the massacre, the massacre itself, how two soldiers survived and how the German officer who gave the order to fire was brought to justice after the war. Dennis O’ Callaghan is the son of one of the survivors. Zoom will be open to members a short while prior to talk start time of 11.00am BST.
